Planet Earth offers so many amazing things to us as, globetrotters. There are pockets of rainforest, vast expanses of ocean and soaring mountains.

This provides hikers in particular with a multitude of amazing, adventure-filled hiking destination choices, which are often impossible to narrow down.

However, we’ve scoured the many destinations across the world where you can really get your legs moving and have managed to curate this list of the 5 most amazing hiking destinations in the world.

From the Peru to Tanzania to Nepal and so many in-between, the world – and its mountains – is your oyster.

  1. Machu Picchu, Peruvian Andes

We had to begin this list with somewhere everybody knows: Machu Picchu. This hike is one of the most popular in the world, most notably for its spectacular history and vistas.

In comparison to a lot of other hikes, Machu Picchu is also an easier hiking destination, making it accessible to anyone who has been to the gym to prepare in advance, especially as there will often be porters carrying your duffel bag.

If you’re wondering what exactly makes Machu Picchu one of the 5 most amazing hiking destinations in the world, listen up.

Machu Picchu was built in around the 1450s for a purpose unbeknownst to archaeologists around the world. Some believe it was built as a religious pilgrimage site built for the Inca people, while others believe it was a residence for Emperor Pachacuti.

Machu Picchu was also cleverly crafted by the Inca people all those years ago using the ashlar technique of shaping stones to make a perfect fit. Some parts of the iconic landscape are so well-crafted a blade of grass cannot be fitted through the stones.

  1. Chadar Trek, India

Whenever we are asked about our favorite hikes and treks around the world, we always come back to India’s Chadar Trek. It is genuinely one of the 5 most amazing hiking destinations in the world, filled with incredible views and a very unique climate.

The Chadar Trek takes hikers across a frozen river valley and into the very heart of the Ladakh region. It’s one of the most remote hiking experiences you’ll ever get, following the 1000-year-old path of Buddhist monks to get into the centre of Ladakh.

Perhaps what makes this hike even more amazing is the changing color of ice along the route and, of course, the extreme temperatures of -20C during the night and -10 in the day.

  1. Mount Everest, Nepal

This would be no real hiking list if it didn’t include the world’s highest mountain, would it?

Nepal’s Mount Everest has been on the bucket list for every professional mountaineer since forever, and the Base Camp on the bucket list of every amateur mountaineer since their first steps into the unknown.

Hiking Mount Everest to the summit is one of the most dangerous and incredible hiking experiences out there. A lot of your safety is down to luck and weather and fitness, as well as your mental stamina too, of course.

Getting to the Base Camp – an incredible 17,600ft – is also an option for those who know the summit is not in their reach. With a solid training plan and great fitness levels, you can reach this point of Everest. The views, and the sense of achievement, in the wonderful Asian nation of Nepal make for one of the best hiking experiences ever.

  1. Mont Blanc, France, Italy and Switzerland

The Tour du Mont Blanc is one of the most famous in Europe, taking you through three different countries and the base of the highest mountain on the continent.

With picturesque scenery of rolling mountain ranges dusted with pristine snow, typical alpine meadows and huge glaciers, this tour is undoubtedly one of the 5 most amazing hiking destinations in the world.

Encompassing 105 miles in just ten days, you’ll be challenged physically, especially with the snow and ice to contend with, but you will also have the most rewarding time out there. Tour du Mont Blanc is worth it all.

  1. Mount Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

Known as the Roof of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro is, of course, worthy of a place on our list of the 5 most amazing hiking destinations in the world. At 19,341ft, this hike is achievable by those who put the effort in before they go and have a bit of prior experience.

What makes Kilimanjaro so amazing is its location. At the heart of Africa, this mountain provides spanning vistas of both Tanzania and Kenya depending on whether you’re climbing the north or south side. Breath taking sunsets hang in the evenings and bright, beautiful sunrises catch your eye every morning on your hike.

Kilimanjaro is a favorite of many hikers for its charm and individuality as a mountain hike and in its location. And for good reason – you can always head on a safari after you’ve climbed back down!
