Traveling by yourself is always a thrilling experience, and for women, it can be something that exudes self-empowerment. According to a report published by Solo Traveler, around nine million women in the United States alone decide to go about and travel by themselves.
While this is something that a lot of women look forward to, there is, of course, a certain amount of risk involved. Fortunately, proper planning and research can help alleviate a good portion of that risk. Research and awareness are crucial for a successful solo adventure.
A-Town
Atlanta is a city that has become one of the more popular tourist destinations in the south, due to the abundance of activities and entertainment options available. As someone who has ventured by herself on a number of trips, I can tell you with certainty that this is one destination that offers a lot for women who want to go on an adventure and have a good time.
Before you start packing your bags, it is good to be acquainted with the city and all that it has to offer. And whether you’re traveling over the weekend, or spending a week to R&R after the holidays. Here are a few tips you need to know if you are a woman traveling to the city of Atlanta by yourself:
How To Travel Through Atlanta
Being a city that has become the hub for entertainment and culture, Atlanta is one place where you never really have to worry about not finding proper forms of transportation.
The city has a public transportation system (MARTA) that has proven to be an efficient way to get around the city and is well connected enough for you to rely on it when traveling from place to place. It also is a safe form of public transportation if you take certain precautions.
In 2017 MARTA average about 1.2 crimes per day (larceny and theft being the majority). College Park, West End, East Point, Lindbergh Center, and Five Points were the top 5 stops in terms of crimes reported. If you need to use any of these stops, especially at night, you may be better off using a ridesharing service or a taxi.
Ridesharing apps such as Uber and Lyft are also great for those who want a more private means of transportation, especially when out later in the night when walking isn’t an option.
Where To Stay in Atlanta
As most U.S cities do, Atlanta has plenty of accommodation options that span over different budget ranges. If you are someone who is on a tight budget and wants to find a cozy accommodation, there are plenty of budget motels and room rentals that are available.
For those who want to stay in a more lavish space, there are a number of five-star hotels around the city that can help you have the perfect vacation. The Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta has an epic spa. If you’re looking for a great place to stay and an easy way to be pampered, I’d recommend the Four Seasons.
If you are visiting the city for some professional work, staying Downtown can help you commute easily to the corporate locations. If you are someone who wants to experience all the fun and nightlife that the city has to offer, Midtown is the place to be.
Where To Have Fun in Atlanta
When it comes to Atlanta, there is no shortage of things to do. For those who want a taste of the rich history of the city and the state, the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Site is one of the best places to visit. The Georgia Aquarium and Piedmont Park are some of the most scenic locations that are filled with biodiversity.
For those that want a taste of the Atlanta nightlife, there are plenty of bars and clubs located around the city that are sure to make your trip a memorable one. Barcelona Wine Club and 10 Degrees South are two local spots known for catering to women and epic cocktails and wine selections.
Or maybe you were looking for something a little more playful? GameX is Atlanta’s newest arcade bar. Play your favorites on a 60-inch screen with a cold drink in your hand and remember a simpler time. Or you can check out Skyview, the 20-story Ferris wheel with gorgeous views of the city and climate-controlled gondolas.
Whatever your style or interests, Atlanta is a city with options for all. Yes, it’s a major US city and you should be cautious when solo, but it is also home southern hospitality equal to none.
