Concrete Jungle, Big Apple, whatever you call it, we all know New York City has amazing things to see, eat, and do. But have you checked out its hip neighbor, Hoboken, right across the Hudson River?
Brooklyn might be all the rage right now; but Hoboken is a great, accessible one day hop and jaunt for any lady who is rockin’ the Big Apple.
If you’re looking for a fun day trip from NYC, here’s the low-down on Hoboken or “Hobo” as many locals call it.

Location & Vibe
Hoboken, New Jersey is a stone’s throw across the Hudson River from Manhattan’s west side. Stylish 20 and 30 somethings fill the cobblestone sidewalks of this kitschy little urban respite.
Hobo is home to many young couples and rather successful white-collar professionals; so be prepared to see lots of baby strollers, and swanky boutique shopping. Under its fancy façade lies a town which is a mash-up of culture, food, and genuine northerners, with a sprinkling of hipsters who must have forgetting how to get back to Brooklyn.
How to get to Hoboken from NYC
By PATH Train: The Port Authority Trans Hudson (PATH) is a subway line which connects midtown and lower Manhattan to Hoboken, Jersey City, and Newark. It is a $2.00 one way ride and your best station to access the PATH train is at 33rd in midtown. The PATH train runs 24-hours a day.
By Ferry: For a more scenic trip over to Hoboken, take the NY Waterway Ferry from either the World Financial Center or midtown at West 39th street. Both ferries will put you at Hoboken’s 14th street pier. The ferry costs approximately $9 one way.
By Bus: The NJ Transit runs frequent buses that will drop you right into Hoboken’s downtown if you desire. Take the #126 bus from the Port Authority Bus Terminal which costs about $4 one way.

Cool things to see and Do in Hoboken
There are tons of things to do in Hoboken! Here are some of our favorites.
Visit Frank Sinatra’s Birthplace
Head west into Hoboken’s “back” streets to visit Sinatra’s home located at 415 Monroe Street. Although the original building no longer stands, you can still take a self-guided tour. Look for the bronze star on the sidewalk!
Take in the best view of NYC
Hoboken has one of the BEST views of NYC! Make sure to bring your camera and take a nice afternoon stroll along the Hudson River Waterfront Walkway. For extra pizazz grab a caramel Frappuccino at Starbucks and pull up a piece of lush grass and watch the world go by.
Carlo’s Bake Shop
For all of you TLC fans out there, this is where it is at, literally! The way I discovered this place was the line of people snaking out the door and around the corner to get into the building. Satiate your appetite for cannoli’s, cookies, and Cake Boss glory here.

Go Kayaking

Where to Eat in Hoboken
Hoboken is a foodie’s PARADISE. With cuisine ranging from Mexican all the way to German and Thai, this stop over is a food orgasm just waiting to happen!
Prime real estate for restaurants is Washington Street, the main drag of town. Additionally you do not have to look far for any type of watering hole or coffeehouse. GGG recommends:
Robongi
Sushi lovers rejoice! Robongi has incredibly fresh rolls and sidewalk seating right on Washington. It is BYOB so grab a crisp bottle of white wine and make sure to order the “Sex on the Beach” roll.

Amanda’s Restaurant
Did your female travel swag land you a cute Wall Street boy already? If so, ask him to dinner at Amanda’s Restaurant at 908 Washington Street. It is housed in an old brownstone and gives off a classy, elegant attitude. The food is “New American” and the menu offers a variety of options.

Empire Coffee Company
Empire is on Bloomfield Street, one block behind Washington. Its adorable corner storefront look renders it somewhat magnetic. Once you open the door you are further mesmerized by the aromas of exposed flavored coffee beans, competing for your attention. You can opt for a normal cup of hot coffee, iced, or you can even purchase a pound of freshly ground beans to share back at your hostel.
